Author's Note: Blog Purpose

This blog is the repository of functional appendices, tangential information, and one man's views on the complex events surrounding the contest for the Kentucky State House of Representatives 43rd District seat in the months leading up to Election Day 2004. The seat was open. The candidates were Michael Czerwonka (R), and Darryl T. Owens (D). Czerwonka, a white construction industry businessman from Louisville near the Ohio River, had challenged incumbent Paul Bather in 2002 and lost by a shockingly low margin, considering that the 43rd's population is about 60% Black and 90% Democrat. Owens, a former President of the local NAACP chapter, is an experienced Louisville politician, having held the "C" District County Commission seat for several terms before the Jefferson County and Louisville rolled into one Louisville Metropolitan Area government.
